Ron’s #6: A Doll’s House by Ibsen

Torvald dominates Nora. Nora acts like a child. Torvald yells at Nora. Nora miraculously gets the cohunes to leave. Torval is devastated. I am indifferent.

Hailed as a brillant work of feminism, this play is overwrought, silly, and unbelievable. It’s in our 10th grade curriculum, and it’s my least favorite one to teach.

I teach English and government in Okinawa, Japan. I love reading theology and fiction, and helps keep me accountable. Reading with three kids under 5 is a bit of a challenge, but I keep trying to find ways to read more. My favorites writers are C. S. Lewis, Flannery O’ Connor, and Raymond Carver.
