My family and I listened to this book en route to visit the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland. This is an excellent introduction for children (ages 10+) to this horrific episode of human history.
The book is told from the perspective of an innocent and naive young German boy named Bruno, whose military father has just received a promotion and a relocation to oversea Auschwitz. Ever the little explorer, and desperate for new friends, Bruno discovers a giant fence and a young boy in ‘stripped pajamas’ on the other side. Through Bruno’s eyes, and his newfound friendship with the little Jewish boy, the reader gets glimpses of the travesties that took place in this part of the world at that time.
One of the most insightful parts of this audiobook is the author interview at the end of the book.
