JRF’s #12: What is a Healthy Church Member? by Thabiti Anyabwile – 127 Pages

I’ve had this short book for a while, but finally got around to reading it as our church in San Diego recently started membership classes.  Anyabwile’s book is a companion to another IX Marks book, Nine Marks of a Healthy Church by Mark Dever, and follows the same structure of that book, linking the “9 marks” (plus 1)  to the church members’ responsibility and relationship to those fundamentals of a health church.  They are:

A Healthy Church Member is…

  1. An Expositional Listener
  2. A Biblical Theologian
  3. Gospel Saturated
  4. Genuinely Converted
  5. A Biblical Evangelist
  6. A Committed Member
  7. Seeking Discipline
  8. A Growing Disciple
  9. A Humble Follower
  10. A Prayer Warrior

This book, while brief is a great way to start Gospel centered conversation and contemplation on what being a member of the Body of Christ looks like on a practical and local level.

The magnetic fields in the earth organize the human body to completely a
wonderful extent. When insurance companies stress preventive health, they always emphasize doctor exams over laboratory tests.
